Remembering Pathways in Your Will or Living Trust

One of the easiest means of making a significant difference for your favorite charities is to remember them in your will. When planned carefully, a will ensures that your estate, comprised of all your assets, is disbursed according to your wishes. Your will offers you a way to provide for the people you care about now, even after you are gone.

Your will should include provisions to save taxes and conserve your property for those you want to benefit. If you have minor children, you should also indicate who you want to serve as their guardian. Your attorney can guide you in crafting a thoughtful document.

Pathway Homes hopes that as you make your will, you remember to include your favorite charities. A bequest to a charity costs you nothing now, and may help reduce estate taxes for your loved ones. There are several ways you can remember Pathway Homes in your will:

Percentage: "I give, devise and bequeath to Pathway Homes, Inc. located in Fairfax, Virginia, ____ percent of my estate."

Dollar Amount: "I give, devise and bequeath to Pathway Homes, Inc. located in Fairfax, Virginia, the sum of $____."

Specific Property: "I give, devise and bequeath to Pathway Homes, Inc. in Fairfax, Virginia, my interest in (describe the property and exact location.)"

Residual Bequest: "I give, devise, and bequeath to Pathway Homes, Inc. located in Fairfax, Virginia: the rest, remainder and residue of my estate." or "____ percent of the rest, remainder and residue of my estate." (Assets remaining after all other specific bequests have been satisfied.)

Contingent Bequest: "If any or all of the above named beneficiaries do not survive me, then I hereby give the share that otherwise would be his/hers/theirs to Pathway Homes, Inc., located in Fairfax, Virginia." (To take effect only if those named as primary beneficiaries predecease you.)

Questions about your will should be discussed with your attorney. A free, no-obligation booklet, "How to Make a Will that Works," is available from Pathway Homes by calling the Vice President for Philanthropy, Alyssa Ford Morel (703/876-0390).

Lastly, if you have remembered Pathway Homes through a bequest, please let us know at the same number, so that we may thank you and make note of your intentions and desires.
